The Entrance Assessment consists of two papers – pupils sit both.

📑 Paper Format

Each paper consists of three sections and covers English (or Gaeilge) and Mathematics.

  • Section 1 – Practice Test (not timed)
  • Section 2 – English (or Gaeilge) Main Test
  • Section 3 – Maths Main Test

Pupils may choose to begin the Main Test with English (or Gaeilge) or Maths.

  • 5 English (or Gaeilge) questions
  • 5 Maths questions
  • Designed to help pupils settle in
  • Not assessed

  • 28 questions (Q1–Q28)
  • Punctuation (5 MCQs), Grammar (5 MCQs), Spelling (5 MCQs)
  • Comprehension: 13 questions
  • Q16–Q22: multiple choice | Q23–Q28: free response
  • Note: Spelling is only assessed in the Spelling Exercise

  • 28 questions (Q29–Q56)
  • Q29–Q50: multiple choice | Q51–Q56: free response

📝 Other Details

  • 60 minutes to complete the Main Test (unless extra time is approved)
  • Each multiple choice question has 5 answer options
  • Pupils mark answers on provided answer sheets
